My First Book: Lessons Learned

I recently published my first book. Well, actually a novella…but still, it has been exciting. I also learned a lot in the process.

I had originally planned to present an educational session on Self-Publishing this coming April for a local technology non-profit I help run. Gearing up for this presentation provided the perfect excuse to learn about something that I had been considering for some time.

Then…my presentation got moved to the beginning of January. And that’s when the panic began to set in. I knew that my novella was nowhere perfect, but I was out of time. In order to finish testing publishing platforms, editing software, and promotional platforms so I could finish my presentation-I had to publish something.

I learned sooooo much during this process. I learned the value of a good proofreader, that no software is perfect, nor am I. I learned that a good cover really does help. And I discovered yet again how lucky I am to have an amazing support system around me.

I am so grateful for all the feedback, support, and constructive criticism. I thank everyone for helping learn through this process and I know that with your continued friendship, support, and feedback that I will continue to improve as a writer.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
